Why Am I Running?
Very often election contests are based on voter unrest, discontent, and even scandal. But that is not the case this year. These elements are not present in DeWitt County.
Judge Prause has served the citizens of DeWitt County well is his capacity of county judge. I have expressed my appreciation of his service with him in private conversations. He knows I hold the utmost respect for him and his ability to govern as he has for the last 24 years.
However, the times are changing and the challenges set before us are going to require more of our elected officials than they have experienced in the past because the paradigm is changing.
The exploration of the Eagle Ford Shale has the potential to change the county in ways we cannot completely comprehend right now. I pray that the changes are all for the better, but there will be growing pains.
Before the exploration boom ends, and the mineral wealth depletes, we must focus on the diversification of our tax base. We will need additional job opportunities for our children and grandchildren. We must also make sure that we have taken advantage of the increased revenue streams by rebuilding our road system.
We will very likely add many millions of more mineral value to the tax rolls over the next ten to twenty years, but the oil and gas depletes very quickly. County leaders must be aware of the volatility and take advantage of the tax revenue while it lasts. If we fail to take advantage now, the burden of rebuilding an old and crumbling road system will fall to the owners of real property whose homesteads are still subject to tax increases.
I am committed to seeking solutions for the challenges we face because I want my children and the upcoming generations to have opportunities right here in DeWitt County.
I hope you will consider my platform and my qualifications and then cast your vote for me on Election Day.
