Personal Statement
Soon after arriving in DeWitt County, Lisa and I were invited to work on the Yoakum Centennial History book and that experience gave me a special appreciation for the history of the region and opened other avenues of community service for me.
By 1988, I was involved with the DeWitt County Taxpayers League as a director and eventually served that organization as its president from 1991-1994.
The Yoakum Rotary Club called me to serve as a director in 1989 and then to serve as its president during 1992-1993. When that term ended, the District Governor asked me to serve on his staff as a field director during 1993-1994.
The board of the Gulf Coast Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors asked me to serve as a director during the years 1988 to 1994 whereupon I assumed the duties of its president for 1995-1996. Following that service, I was installed as the president of the Victoria Area Estate Planning Council for 1996-1997.
The Stratton Primitive Baptist Church asked me to serve as church clerk during 1993-1997 and then called for my ordination as a deacon in 2006.
The Lakeside Club of Yoakum asked me to serve as its treasurer in 1999 and I served in that capacity until 2005.
In 2003, I ran for and won a seat on the Yoakum City Council against an incumbent mayor who had served on the city council for 28 years.
Since 2005, I have focused my attention on several business interests and developing good relations with our state representatives.
